Additional ABBA - Gold: Greatest Hits Information

Anyone looking for the key to Abba's enduring appeal should look no further than "Voulez Vous" and "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" for their answer. There was an innocence to the Swedish quartet, even when they were singing about one-night stands and the invitations to them. Gold establishes that the band, while appreciated as campy, were actually multifaceted in their execution. "S.O.S." has a raw urgency in its chorus, and "Does Your Mother Know" draws its energy from classic '50s rock & roll. Likewise, you don't have to be Priscilla to swoon over "Mamma Mia" or "Dancing Queen." And when it comes to drama, those soaring vocals on "The Winner Takes It All" turn the song into a bitter anthem of every relationship that has ever fallen apart. The much-covered "Lay All Your Love on Me" is practically epic. --Steve Gdula

What Customers Say About ABBA - Gold: Greatest Hits:

It is incredibly good. It was the decade in which the most great music was created; of ALL genres. Let us return now to the days of bell bottoms, Farrah, disco, etc. Particularly on "Dancing Queen" you will return to the days of your youth. In the field of pop, no group was greater than ABBA. And, ABBA - Gold: Greatest Hits is really a perfect compilation of all their most famous stuff. You can actually see and FEEL the good times - of youth, freedom and fun - of the '70's. In the song, the girl was "young and sweet, only seventeen." She was having an absolute blast on the weekends.

My wife is a music teacher and did a lesson plan from the song take a chance. Her principal came in to observe her and he loved the teaching plan and told other teachers about it. He is now retiring and my wife asked me to buy the cd so she could give it to him as a kind of gag but serious retirement gift.

I didn't know ABBA, but then i heard Dancing Queen, and i rememberd. It got on my nerves after sometime. I was rebuilding my CD Collection and decided, i should check this out, i know the name. Well, it was the Disco Era and i happen to like somethings of that era, though i found myself skipping tracks when i mp3'd it. Yeah ABBA was big, but it seems to me (personal taste) it isn't something you listen to over and over. but to each thier own.

I have always loved ABBA and this cd had all the great favorites. Listening to them makes my toes start tapping and I feel young again. That was a great era. Seeing Mamma Mia inspired me to buy the gold hits.

Was never an ABBA fan in the 70's but have a new appreciation of it.
